the father figure

01/19/2009

Last night I dreamed about my father. He recently stopped smoking, and I’ve never been so proud of someone in my entire life. In the dream I found him smoking at a park, and this conversation ensued:

H: I thought you quit smoking, Dad.
D: I did, but it was too hard.
H: [yelling really loud] You lied to me! Do you know how proud I was of you?
At this point I sat down on a swing set and began to shake and cry.

I’m not sure what to make of it.
